Is it dilemma for you: to smoke or to have an erection?
If you have problems with erections and you are a heavy smoker- you will face a difficult choice: to stop smoking and restore a normal sexual function or continue kiliing yourself… if you want perform well in bed- stop smoking.
New study gives the confirmation that nicotine smoking may be a major cause of impotence in men.
Findings of the research investigating what influence smoking produces on a man’s ability to get an erection was introduced at the American Heart Association’s annual Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention.
Of course, there were lots of studies devoted to the negative influence of smoking on the health and erectile function. But this research was unique in that it determined other factors related to erectile dysfunction.
Both smoking and impotence have often been related to plaque occurred in the arteries, known as atherosclerosis. The plaque prevents normal blood flow and thus results in blood circulation problems in the body, including erectile dysfunction.
The researchers elaborated the data on 4,764 men in the average age 47 who were to complete a survey. Smoking habit and the frequency of sexual activity were among the questions.
The findings of the study were:
- Men who used to smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day were at a 60% greater risk of impotence in comparison with males who never tried.
- 15% of the past and present smokers had erectile problems.
- Men who currently smoked tend to have erectile problems 30% higher.
- Men who had never smoked but had other conditions related to impotence 12% experienced erection problems.
So it is up to you to decide if you want to receive a dubious pleasure from smoking or enjoy regular sexual life.
Cialis additional use
Cialis was approved by FDA to treat enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP).The male prostate represents a reproductive gland with an important function of making the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation.
When the prostate gets bigger it is called BHP condition and is a normal part of an ageing process. The growing gland can press on the urethra and affect urination causing bladder problems.
Cialis was tested in 3 main clinical trials in men who were diagnosed with BHP. They were administered 5 mg of Cialis on a daily basis. Those who took the medication regularly reported improvements in symptoms of BHP. The last trial involved men with BHP and ED. The medication demonstrated a significant decrease in the enlarged prostate symptoms as well as improved erectile function. The beneficial effects of Cialis in the treatment of both conditions is welcomed by the doctors and experts in male sexual health.
Cialis animal toxicology
The studies of Cialis in animal demonstrated vascular swelling and infection in animals (mice, rats, and dogs) treated with the medication. In rodents lymphoid mortification and hemorrhage were observed in the spleen, thymus, and mesenteric lymph nodes when Cialis was administered in the large doses of 20 mg. In dogs, larger occurence of disseminated arteritis was noted in 1- and half-a year studies at exposure to Cialis of 1- to 54-fold above the human exposure (AUC) at the MRHD of 20 mg. In a large study of dogs lasting for more than a year no disseminated arteritis was noted, but 2 dogs had significant drops in white blood cells and moderate drops in platelets with signs of infection at unbound Cialis exposures of about 14- to 18-fold the human exposure at the MRHD of 20 mg. The abnormal blood-cell changes were restorable within about half a month after the medication was stopped.
Cialis toxicology: carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, fertility impairment
During nonclinic toxicology studies Cialis was administered to mice and rats in the dose of 400 mg per kg daily for 2 year- period. The medication has shown no carcinogenic effects in animals. Regular medication exposures, as estimated by AUC of unbound Tadalafil, were about 10-fold for mice, and 14-26-fold for rats of both genders, the exposures in males given Maximum Recommended Human Dose (MRHD) of 20 mg.
Cialis was reported to be not mutagenic in special bacterial assays including mutation tests in mouse lymphoma cells.
The animal studies of reproductive performance have shown no Cialis effects on fertility and reproductive organ morphology in male or female rats administered oral doses of Tadalafil up to 400 mg/kg/day.
The study of Cialis effects on fertility in dogs given tadalafil daily for 3 to 12 months have demonstrated that there was non-reversible associated with the treatment degeneration of the seminiferous tubular epithelium in animals ( in 20-100% of the dogs) that proceeded to a decrease in spermatogenesis in 40-75% of the dogs at doses of ≥10 mg/kg/day.
Cialis essential information
Cialis is not to be used for women and children younger than 18 years of old.
Men using Cialis should know that the medication will not prevent sexually transmitted disease, so it is necessary to use safe preventive methods to avoid the STD. Cialis will not prevent pregnancy, you should use effective and safe forms of birth control.
Cialis may very rarely cause mild, temporary vision changes such as blurred vision, difficulty in color discrimination, sensitivity to light. You should contact your doctor if these adverse events persist.
Rarely, there were cases of sudden vision loss associated with Cialis usage, particularly due to the preexisting problem called nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Patients with this rare but serious condition should not take Cialis.
A man with ED should not combine several different medicines for impotence treatment. Do not use other ED oral therapies with Cialis.
Cialis is administered with great caution in the geriatric patients because they may be more sensitive to its effects.
Cialis’s effect on other drugs
In clinical studies the potential of Cialis to affect other medications was evaluated. It was assessed that Tadalafil did not potentiate any effects of aspirin such as the increase in bleeding time.
The tests have shown that Tadalafil had no clinically meaningful effect on changes in prothrombin time impelled by warfarin (CYP2C9).
Tadalafil is not suposed to cause clinically meaningful restriction or production of the clearance of drugs in the process of metabolism by cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms.
Studies have demonstrated that Tadalafil does not restrict or induce P450 isoforms CYP1A2, CYP3A4, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, and CYP2E1.
Tadalafil had no important effect on the Theophylline pharmacokinetics. When subjects taking Theophylline received Tadalafil a small augmentation of the increase in heart rate related to Theophylline was noticed.
Midazolam or Lovastatin were not affected by Tadalafil according to the clinical studies.
Coadministration of Digoxin 0.25 mg per day with Tadalafil in a dosage of 40 mg once a day for 10 days did not have a meaningful effect on the pharmacokinetics of Digoxin in healthy participants.
Erectile problems are associated with restless legs syndrome in men
According to a new study men suffering from restless legs syndrome have a higher risk of impotence development.
The study conducted by the researchers from Harvard University, is based on the findings of an earlier research that suggested that erectile dysfunction, was more common among older men with restless legs syndrome. The previous study had demonstrated that the more often the symptoms of the disorder were the higher risk of impotence was.
The new study involved more than 11,000 males, of an average age of 64 at the initiation of the research in 2002. All the men did not suffer from ED, diabetes or arthritis. The study was conducted under the name – the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, and started with the men reporting about their general health.
Men were estimated to struggle with restless legs syndrome (RLS) if they met four RLS diagnostic criteria which were ordered by the International RLS Study Group. All the participants had symptoms more than five times a month.
The researchers determined 1,979 cases of erectile dysfunction and the men with restless legs syndrome were about 50 % more likely suffer from ED in comparison with men without the syndrome. The study took into consideration other factors such as: age, smoking habits, alcohol consumption and others.
The result was that males who suffered restless legs syndrome symptoms about 14 times a month were in 68 % more likely to develop erectile dysfunction.
The study lead Dr. Xiang, an instructor at Harvard Medical School suggests that the mechanisms underlying the link between RLS and impotence could be caused by “hypofunctioning of the brain chemical- dopamine in the central nervous system, which is associated with both conditions”.
Why is priapism so dangerous?
If you have ever experienced a prolonged erection which was painful, you should know how dangerous it can be for a man’s health. Prolonged, persistant penile erection or priapism is a medical condition which can last for hours, and even days. Priapism is a very serious condition which requires serious medical assistance or it can end with necrosis of penile tissues and constant inability to have sexual activity.
Priapism usually happens in men with the problems of blood flow in and around the penis area. When priapism occurs, too much blood goes into the penis, and cannot flow out of it. This extra blood in the penis makes it engorged and stiff. The rigidity lasting for a long time causes great pain and finally may lead to complete damage of penile tissues.
The most common causes of prolonged erections are:
• Blood disorders such as sickle cell disease and leukemia can provoke priapism. The cancer of the penis may increase the chance of having priapism.
• Some medicines like blood thinners, medicines for hypertension, hormone medicines, and antipsychotic drugs, as well as oral ED therapies may also lead to the development of priapism.
• Illegal drugs – cocaine and marijuana very often cause this condition.
• Genital trauma such as the damage to the blood vessels that supply the penis with blood may be the affliction of priapism.
Why is priapism so dangerous?
Priapism is a condition that is not related to sexual stimulation and may last for four hours or longer. The penis stays erect for a long time even after you ejaculate or put cold on the penis. Priapism is very often a painful condition. So this condition demands to be treated properly and as quickly as possible.
The treatment goal is to remove the blood from the penis. Still even after the treatment, priapism may come back. Even with treatment, a man may have an erection that lasts longer than four hours. This may cause permanent damage to the penile tissue. After treatment which involves different methods a man may lose sexual desire. Nevertheless, treatment is vital, if you do not get proper medical treatment, you may have greater tissue damage, which can result in erectile dysfunction.
Alpha blockers and Cialis
Medical professionals usually strictly warn their patients for whom they prescribe Cialis and other PDE5 inhibitors about the concomitant usage of nitrates. More rarely they alarm men about contradictory usage of alpha blockers with PDE5 inhibitors. Cialis can potentially augment the blood-pressure-lowering effect of alpha blockers and antihypertensive medications. Doctors should ask their patients if they take alpha blockers and discuss with them the potential health risk of mixing the drugs with Cialis.
The coadministration of Cialis with alpha blockers should be made with much caution. Cialis and alpha-adrenergic blocking agents are both vasodilators with blood-pressure-lowering effects. When combined the medications may cause an additive effect on blood pressure. These drugs can lower blood pressure significantly in some men which may lead to symptomatic hypotension. The following cases should be especially estimated:
- Males should continue alpha-blocker therapy prior to initiating a PDE5 inhibitor. Males who are instable in hemodynamics on alpha-blocker therapy have the potential risk of symptomatic hypotension with combined use of PDE5 inhibitors.
- Those males who are stable on alpha-blocker therapy can be administered Cialis but at the lowest recommended dose. The initiation of the therapy should be made under great control.
- The concomitant use of Cialis and alpha blockers may be affected by other variables, including intravascular volume depletion and other antihypertensive medication.
If you are using alpha blockers and want to initiate the treatment with Cialis you should consult your doctor to evaluate possible health benefits and risks.
Sex Therapist
The role of sex therapist can vary from a psychiatrist, a psychologist, or a marriage and family therapist using special sex therapy methods to solve sexual problems occurring in people of both genders.
Sex therapists have several choices of ways to treat a particular disorder when a person comes to him to discuss this disorder. The sexological method to treating sexual issues involves talk therapy or discussion openly the particular problems.
Sex therapists have knowledge about the physiological processes and usually cooperate with physicians to determine if there are any physical causes of sexual concerns.
Human sexuality has the beneficial influence on people’s lives and their relationships. And if any problems occur in sexual life, they should be treated. If these problems are of psychological character, sex therapist consulting may help.
The most important thing to remember for those who want to address their problems to a sex therapist is that they should absolutely trust their sex specialist to achieve the best positive result from the treatment.
